A bit off topic: in the flatlands of New Hampshire, the "big" issue this week was the sexual assault and rape charges against newly-acquired Patriots receiver Antonio Brown. As with most things in life, I have no clue what happened. What I do know is that it's amusing to watch members of the media who were so quick to run over Brett Kavanaugh with the #metoo train attempt to delicately pick apart the story from Brown's accuser. What happened to #BelieveAllWomen? My question: are we stupid? Back in Los Angeles, home of 60,000 homeless, thousands of rats, typhoid, typhus, bubonic plague and now, possibly leprosy. I wonder if there is a tipping point at which a formerly livable city becomes completely unlivable? That is, I think residents will hang in there for a while, but at some point people will just flee the city, leaving the problems behind. I suspect that it is like what Hemingway said about going bankrupt -- first slowly, then quickly. Is there a way to turn things around before we reach that tipping point? Maybe by reopening the mental institutions?
