To protest Georgia's new law on abortion, Alyssa Milano and Bette Midler are urging women to deny America's menfolk sex. "We just cannot risk pregnancy," says Alyssa. "Join me by not having sex." On Monday's "Tucker Carlson Tonight" I tried to grapple with Hollywood's channeling of Aristophanes. Click below to watch::
If memory serves Bette Midler's first hit was her version of "In the Mood". Forty-five years later, she's finally not in the mood.
~If you're one of that small brave band who enjoy me in video, we'll be back later today with a special edition of The Mark Steyn Show - and, for those who prefer me in non-visual formats, we'll have a Steyn Club second anniversary edition of our Clubland Q&A tomorrow, Wednesday, at 4pm North American Eastern/8pm Greenwich Meantime Time.
It was a busy weekend at SteynOnline, starting with the conclusion of our latest thrilling Tale for Our Time, The Island of Dr Moreau. My Weekend Notebook looked at "the village idiots of Brexit", the dark corruption at the heart of the FBI, and a comedian whose biggest laugh was a newspaper headline; and our Saturday movie date mourned the passing of Spider-Man screenwriter Alvin Sargent with a film about a very different kind of web. Sunday's Topical Take marked the centenary of Pete Seeger, and our Song of the Week explored the real history of "his" biggest hit. For Mother's Day, we presented our annual audio special of sentimental mother songs. If you were busy with matters maternal all weekend long, we hope you'll want to check out one or two of the foregoing as this brand new week cranks into gear.
The aforementioned Tales for Our Time is made with the support of members of The Mark Steyn Club, currently celebrating its second birthday. Thank you so much for all the Steyn Club subscription renewals this last week. As our third year begins, I know very well that I would not be here without the support of our members, for which we are all profoundly grateful. For more information on the Club, see here - or, if you're personally antipathetic to me but the lady next door's more partial, why not sign her up for a Gift Membership, or treat her to a SteynOnline gift certificate? She'll thank you for it.
