Mark returns from his summer hiatus tomorrow, Monday, live across America on "Tucker Carlson Tonight". We hope you'll tune in - and stick with Steyn for a full week of TV and radio appearances in the days ahead.
If audio and video are insufficient for you, then you may prefer Mark live in person, for seven sparkling nights on the inaugural Mark Steyn Club Cruise, sailing from Montreal to Boston at the height of the Eastern Seaboard's beautiful fall foliage season. Join Steyn and his doughty crew Michele Bachmann, John O'Sullivan, Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney, along with special musical guest Tal Bachman. We'll be doing all our regular SteynOnline features - The Mark Steyn Show, Song of the Week, Tales for Our Time - but live and on water. You can find more details of the Cruise here.
Meanwhile, in case you missed it, here's how the summer's gone around these parts:
~Before taking off, Mark joined Barbara Kay to talk free speech for Moses Znaimer's IdeaCity confab in Toronto. Click below to watch:
~Steyn was also honored by Canada's Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms with the first ever George Jonas Freedom Award. His acceptance speech begins about half-an-hour in, but don't miss Conrad Black's delightful intro to Mark, and the presentation of the award by George's widow Maya:
~We re-ran a few Steynian classics over recent weeks, including these ad-libbed remarks on America's Number One radio show, made the day after the Orlando nightclub massacre, about "the party at the end of the world". We think they're more timely than ever. Click below to listen:
~In Steyn's absence, we introduced a modest innovation for Mark Steyn Club members - a Clubland Open Thread. You can read what members made of the last few weeks' big issues here and here.
~For our weekend movie dates this summer we welcomed the first ever guest writer in SteynOnline's fifteen-year history, Mark's distinguished compatriot Kathy Shaidle. Do enjoy Kathy's terrific columns on Jerry Lewis and The King of Comedy, Bette Davis, Psycho and Rita Hayworth's Gilda - and we look forward to having her back very soon. Thank you also to Mark's favorite piano-playing imam Andrew Lawton for helping hold down the fort.
~Our Sunday Song of the Week featured a few reprises of beloved favorites, from George Gershwin's "Summertime" to Abba's "Waterloo", via the classical roots of Frank Sinatra's recording career and the all-time greatest World Cup anthem. We were also pleased to see that two chums of our musical endeavors here had a good summer. Goodfella Paul Sorvino was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and Patsy Gallant was inducted into the Order of Canada. Here's Paul telling Mark about a unique family connection to "O Sole Mio":
And here's Patsy telling Mark about a unique childhood connection to Édith Piaf:
~The summer began with Mark taking his (temporary) leave, and revealing where the damages from his victory in the grisly CRTV vs Steyn suit will be going. For those of a legal bent, we have also provided a handy guide to CRTV founder Cary Katz's four (at the time of writing) lawsuits with Mark. We will update this page as Katz adds to his swelling number of cases against Steyn.
Much of our content at SteynOnline this last year has been funded by members of The Mark Steyn Club. Don't worry, none of our regular features are being paywalled or anything like that, but we are providing Club members with a few extras, such as our Sunday Poem, Tales for Our Time, participation in our Clubland Q&As, and the opportunity to sail with Mark on the inaugural Mark Steyn Club Cruise from Montreal to Boston next month at the height of foliage season. (If you're thinking of coming on the Cruise, don't leave it too late, as the price is more favorable the earlier you book.)
You can find more details about The Mark Steyn Club here. And don't forget our Steyn Club Gift Membership (not to be confused with our SteynOnline gift certificates).
A new week at SteynOnline begins tonight with our Song of the Week, and continues tomorrow with Mark's return to the airwaves, live across America with Tucker Carlson Monday evening at 8pm Eastern/5pm Pacific.
