Happy Mother's Day to all the moms, mums, mas and maters among our readers. Mark has some songs for the season.
Meanwhile, in case you missed it, here's how the last seven days looked to Steyn:
~The week began with the launch of Emmanuel Macron's presidency and the launch of The Mark Steyn Club. We like to think the latter will prove more consequential for the world. For details on our new club, see here. As for how it impacts Se'nnight of Steyn subscribers, scroll down.
~As for the French election, the Monday morning after the landslide before found Mark pondering the barrenness of Eurocrats. Steyn marked the occasion with a suitably Gallicly elegaic Song of the Week; Paris celebrated with a terror alert at the Gare du Nord.
~On Tuesday, President Trump fired FBI Director James Comey. Mark marveled at the Democrat-media whiplash in what became our most read piece of the week.
~Wednesday's SteynPost examined what may well be the most important graph of our time. In other midweek media appearances, Mark joined John Oakley on Toronto's AM640 to consider whether Justin Trudeau's cardboard cutout is better suited to attend G7 summits, as well as the state of late-night comedy in the age of Trump. ~Thursday's Mark Steyn Show featured a full-length interview with Australia's second longest-serving prime minister, The Hon John Howard, OM, AC. Click below to watch:
Speaking of Oz, there's plenty to savor in this profile of Steyn in the indispensable magazine Quadrant. Mark and John Bloom chew over both the Big Picture and life's small pleasures.
~As noted above, this week we launched The Mark Steyn Club with various benefits. Don't worry, none of our regular content is being paywalled, or anything like that. But we are offering Club members a few extras, including this weekend the launch of our series of audio adventures, Tales for Our Time. As Marian Booker commented after the first episode:
This Tales for Our Time is a wonderful idea. I'm enjoying it very much. Can't wait for the next installment!
Thank you, Marian. Much appreciated. There'll be a new episode tonight.
~For our Saturday movie date we went shagadelic, baby, as Steyn marked the 20th anniversary of Austin Powers.
Those who subscribe to this weekly digest via our SteynOnline mailing list are automatically enrolled in The Mark Steyn Club, free of charge, as Basic Members - which admittedly sounds a bit dragged-down-the-aisle-from-coach-class on United, but it does entitle you to special Member Prices at the SteynOnline bookstore. Or you can upgrade to Founder Membership here. William Tomlinson is enjoying it:
Thank you so much for giving us the honor of being a founding member of the Mark Steyn Club. We dearly love your work, Mark, and consider you as fine a friend as we might have.
It's you we should thank. Mark has been very touched to hear from so many old friends and loyal readers, some of whom go back to the National Post and Speccie days.
A new week at SteynOnline begins tonight with our Song of the Week.
