To all our French readers, Happy Presidential Election Round One! For his weekend column, Mark contemplated today's vote in light of Thursday's terrorist attack - and also reprised a pertinent and (as it turned out) final appearance with Bill O'Reilly on "The O'Reilly Factor". He will have more to say about France and its next president in the days ahead.
Meanwhile, in case you missed it, here's how the last seven days looked to Steyn:
~The week began with our Song of the Week and a 50th birthday celebration of a Bacharach & David classic: "The Look of Love."
~On Monday Mark analyzed Erdoğan's victory in the Turkish referendum and concluded that, yet again, demography is destiny. It was our most read piece of the week.
~On Tuesday Theresa May announced a June general election in the United Kingdom. Steyn joined Trish Regan and Ashley Webster on Fox Business to consider the lie of the land.
~Wednesday's SteynPost found Mark reflecting on constitutions and culture, pizza and kebab.
~On Thursday Steyn swung by Tucker Carlson's show on Fox News to discuss the weaselly university administrators' increasing use of "security concerns" to prevent dissenting voices from speaking on campus. Click below to watch:
~On Friday The Mark Steyn Weekend Show welcomed bestselling author Andrew Klavan for a discussion on the intersection of culture and politics, and presented the Klezmer Conservatory Band's live performance of Mark's favorite Leonard Cohen song. Click below to watch:
~For our Saturday movie date Steyn marked the 50th anniversary of The Graduate: Here's to formal modes of address, Mrs Robinson.
Mark has a new project he's working on - about various aspects of the highly lucrative American "college-loan industry", and especially so-called PLUS loans sold direct to parents. If you've been on the receiving end of a student-loan salesman's blandishments, do shoot Steyn an email. Confidentiality will be respected.
Over at our YouTube channel, a commenter writes:
Wow, I had no idea Mark Steins [sic] "Cat Album" was a real thing. And, wait, what? It's actually GOOD? Like, really good!? How am I just finding out about this now?
We're not sure why anyone hearing a guy promoting his "cat album" would assume it was not "a real thing". But in this case it most certainly is. Feline Groovy: Songs for Swingin' Cats, dedicated to Steyn's own beloved cat Marvin, has lots of five-star reviews at Amazon, and is available on CD - or, for instant gratification, via digital download from Amazon or iTunes.
A new week at SteynOnline begins tonight with Mark's Song of the Week - and with Steyn's appearance on "Fox & Friends" bright and early tomorrow morning, Monday, just after 7am Eastern.
