I had a grand old time guest-hosting for an ailing Rush today. Just a cold, so he should be back fighting fit by Friday, but I will be filling in again tomorrow for another three hours of cheap-foreign-labor Excellence In Broadcasting.
You can find a few moments from today's show here. I took as the over-arching theme Rush's riff from yesterday that "western civilization is erasing itself". But, within that big picture stuff, we did have time for some low politics, including the terrible hostage to fortune from the guy set to be the next Republican Speaker:
Kevin McCarthy is the one who linked Benghazi with Hillary Clinton's poll numbers. It's something that never would have occurred in the interview. He gave her her campaign ad. This is a guy whose job is going to be number three in the country, the most powerful Republican. He has to know what he's saying when he's in front of a microphone, doesn't he?
One other subject we addressed, with reference to my new book, was Ted Cruz's devastating questioning of the know-nothing who heads the Sierra Club, one Aaron Mair. As I said on air:
I blow hot and cold on Ted Cruz the candidate, because he doesn't have that schtick down. He was quiet in the last debate. But when he's in tenacious, relentless prosecutor mode, it's a thing of beauty. I would love to watch Ted Cruz go back and forth with Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders or Joe Biden.
It is a thing of beauty. Watch:
It's weird. The "denier" is in command of the facts, whereas the president of an organization specifically devoted to the subject appears to know nothing about it, but instead keeps drooling over and over about "the 97 per cent consensus".
By the way, that "97 per cent" nonsense is taken apart on page 295 of my book. It means 75 out of 77 more or less hand-picked scientists. So the "97 per cent consensus" is in fact a smaller number of scientists than the more than 120 I cite in my book, all of whom cheerfully put the boot in to Big Climate's poster child, the hockey stick.
That book, incidentally, is called "A Disgrace to the Profession", the story of the 21st century's most famous graph and the damage it has done both to science and public policy. It's available in paperback as well as - instantly! - in Kindle and Nook. Here's what James Delingpole has to say about it today over at Breitbart:
The thing is that thing that I mentioned at the beginning: the guys providing the science for the alarmist agenda are often really quite low-grade.
That is what is so deliciously cruel – but also, of course, so totally fair and accurate – about Mark Steyn's new book "A Disgrace To The Profession."
Basically, it's just 300 pages of scientists from around the world, explaining how totally, embarrassingly useless Michael Mann is.
And if that's what they're saying about the alarmist camp's top player – onlie begetter of the infamous Hockey Stick – what does that say for the rest of the team?
Indeed.
~See you on the radio for Rush again tomorrow, starting live Thursday at 12 noon Eastern/9am Pacific.
