SteynOnline is honored to number among its readers several residents of Vanuatu and other Pacific islands that have taken a pounding from Cyclone Pam. Only the other day Mark received a request to autograph a book for a government official in Port Vila. So his thoughts are with his Commonwealth cousins in the South Pacific this weekend, and, although they are small and peripheral countries in the world's affairs, we hope you will spare a moment for them, too.
In case you missed it, here's how the last seven days looked to Steyn:
The week began with a song that survived a flop show, a total rewrite, and five credited authors to become a major standard: "I Won't Dance."
~On Monday Mark pondered the problem of "moderate Islam".
~On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton gave a press conference about her non-compliance with government record-keeping requirements that boiled down to: Yeah, and what are you gonna do about it? Steyn's discussion of the presser with Hannity on Fox News attracted a lot of comment.
~On Wednesday, the United States Government Tweeted one of the most idiotic Tweets in the history of Tweets.
~On Thursday, Mark considered the indestructible yet utterly false narrative of the murder of Matthew Shepard - and the damage done by its web of lies.
~On Friday, Mark urged Democrat women not to throw their vote away on an utterly phony "historic first", and to go with Fauxcahontas instead.
At the weekend our Sinatra centennial observances continued with one of his greatest recordings and a look at his film career.
Incidentally, the book Mark was asked to sign for that Vanuatu official was the paperback edition of Climate Change: The Facts, the new book on the state of the science, the policy and the politics, with contributions from Mark and many others - and now available for pre-order from the SteynOnline bookstore, Denier Steyn will be happy to autograph it for you, too! And, as always, we thank readers who've continued to support Mark's end of the upcoming Mann vs Steyn global-warming trial via SteynOnline gift certificates and other Steyn store purchases.
A new week at SteynOnline begins tonight with our Song of the Week.
