Mark has been clobbered by ill health for the past week, but he still managed to keep a bleary, medicated eye on the week's news. So, in case you missed it, here's how the last seven days looked to Steyn:
~On Monday, Mark marked the death of the once bazillion-selling poet Rod McKuen with a tip of the hat to his Sinatra Century connection: "Love's Been Good To Me."
~On Tuesday, after the latest beheading and the last sloughed-off presidential "shoulder-to-shoulder" response, the Islamic State released a video of Jordanian pilot Muath al-Kasasbeh being burned to death. Steyn's response to this latest ISIS atrocity was our most-read piece of the week.
~On Wednesday, Mark mulled the advice of one Dutch gay novelist's response to atrocities like the above - that "Islam must learn to laugh at itself". Good luck with that, as Steyn reflected further in a talk on Islam, Europe and free speech.
~By Thursday, the big media story of the week was the unraveling of NBC news star Brian Williams' credibility, over a series of self-aggrandizing war-hero fantasies. Mark considered the matter in "The Life of Brian".
~On Friday, as an apocalyptic kick-off to the weekend, Steyn gave an in-depth interview to Laura Rosen Cohen in Toronto.
As Brian Williams took a "short break" from the Nightly News, Mark's Saturday movie feature reviewed an earlier journalistic fabulist in the film Shattered Glass.
While fraudulent Nobel Laureate Michael E Mann's suit against Steyn is stalled in procedural codswallop, we hope you'll consider whiling away the months till trial with a new book featuring Mark and many eminent scientists called Climate Change: The Facts. It's available in Kindle at Amazon outlets worldwide, as well as in Kobo and in Nook at Barnes & Noble. And, as always, we thank those of you who've continued to support Steyn's pushback against Big Climate via SteynOnline gift certificates and other Steyn store purchases.
A new week at SteynOnline begins tonight with our Song of the Week.
