All this month at the SteynOnline Song of the Week we're marking some big anniversaries of landmark Christmas standards - the 75th birthday of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, the 70th birthday of "Baby, It's Cold Outside". But even the new songs are showing their age: "All I Want For Christmas Is You" turns 20 years old this Yuletide. So this week Mark celebrates the occasion with a special audio edition of Song of the Week that tells the story of this Christmas hit and includes his own performance of the song with Miss Jessica Martin.
Mark and Jessica pair it up with Bobby Troup's "I'd Like You For Christmas", written for sultry Julie London, but, if you're wondering how they cope with Mariah Carey's big finish, don't worry: Steyn hits a new high. Click above to listen. And stay tuned for the ending - because, unlike all the other versions, Mark and Jessica's actually has one.
~Mark's version of "All I Want For Christmas Is You" can be found on his Christmas album with Jessica, Making Spirits Bright, available from the Steyn store. And Jessica joins Mark on his new album Goldfinger for a rollicking take of our Song of the Week #172, "On A Slow Boat To China". If you're a fan of Steyn's Song of the Week, you may like to know that Goldfinger also includes Mark's versions of Song of the Week #31, Song of the Week #32, Song of the Week #195, Song of the Week #207, Song of the Week #220 and Song of the Week #221. The album is available from the Steyn store either on CD or via digital download or as part of a Christmas-season double-bill with Mark's new book. It's also on sale at Amazon and CD Baby.
