~The week began with a song for the World Cup, and some unusual analysis of a German goal. We like to think SteynOnline is the only news source whose World Cup coverage involves both Puccini and Wahhabis.
~On Monday Mark considered the ongoing implosion of Iraq, and the chain of Obama dominoes that brought us to this point.
~On Tuesday Steyn wondered whether we were living through an age of dwindling innovation, which proved to be our most controversial post of the week and produced a torrent of mail from dissenting readers.
~Wednesday saw our most-read column: Mark's musings on the ongoing IRS scandal, "We don't need no stinkin' emails." Steyn's position on this has been consistent since the story first broke over a year ago: the IRS is systemically corrupt and should be abolished and replaced by a new agency with dramatically circumscribed powers appropriate to a free and civilized society.
~On Thursday Mark joined Hugh Hewitt on the radio to discuss the two horrifying crack-ups of the moment - Iraq and Hillary's book tour.
~This week's Spectator hit UK and Aussie news stands on Friday, and inside Mark discovered that he had reached the enviable stage of notoriety wherein even his book blurbs are too controversial.
~On the warm front, Al Gore blamed the unstoppable march of ISIS across Syria and Iraq on global warming (warning: link includes NSFW picture of Leonardo DiCaprio and John Kerry), and Barack Obama surpassed the supposed 97 per cent climate consensus to achieve his own immaculate 100 per cent climate consensus. Big Climate enforcer Michael E Mann, meanwhile, continued to expose Koch Brothers shills all around, including CNN's Jake Tapper and NPR's Diane Rehm. ~At week's end, Steyn marked the death of Gerry Goffin, writer of "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?", "The Loco-Motion", "Up On The Roof" and many more, with a look at the heyday of New York's Brill Building, and a film loosely based on the career of Goffin's wife, Carole King.
