~The week began with the European Parliament election results, a landmark Ukip victory, and a Steyn I-told-you-so moment.
~Monday was Memorial Day in America. We marked the occasion with a song for the season, a remembrance from New Hampshire, and a poem by Mark's daughter.
~On Tuesday Steyn turned his attention to Africa, east and west. He noted the birth of a newborn American citizen whose mother is shackled to a cell wall in Khartoum by calling yet again (in what became our most-read piece of the week) for Obama to fast-track Meriam Ibrahim to US citizenship. And, on a not unrelated topic, he looked at the epidemic of vanishing penises in Burkina Faso. But, to quote one of the late Maya Angelou's many "African sayings", The trouble for the thief is not how to steal the chief's bugle, but where to blow it."
~On Wednesday, Mark started the day with Toronto's Number One morning man John Oakley and discussed the mass murder in Santa Barbara - and which of your preferred cultural bugbears is to blame. On the other mass murder of the week - at the Jewish Museum in Brussels - there was a strange reluctance to detect any broader societal significance.
~On Thursday, Mark's Eighth Grade son received the Obama Award, as Steyn subsequently revealed on The Rush Limbaugh Show.
~On Friday, continuing Mark's series on the paramilitarization of American life, the constabulary of Haverford, Pennsylvania took it to a whole other level. In other curious law-enforcement priorities, Eric Holder is cracking down on pornographic checking accounts.
~On the upcoming Mann vs Steyn trial of the century, Michael E Mann continued his run of bizarre media bookings to appear with a lady who thinks we need to get more children of the Undocumented-American community involved in science. For his part, Mark announced that he was broadening his pushback against Dr Mann to try to end the climate of fear that Mann and his Warmanos have imposed on climate science. ~Mark closed out the week with a 70th birthday salute to Michelle Phillips and the Mamas and Papas, drawn from the new expanded eBook edition of Mark Steyn's Passing Parade.
