In the wake of this week's leonine Song of the Week, Morgan Riordan writes:
Just a polite enquiry to see if there were any plans to mark the upcoming 50th anniversary of the Beatles' appearance on Ed Sullivan's TV show in February 1964?
I hear the Grammys are calling it 'The Night That Changed America' – if not the rest of the Western World - so could Mark perhaps - finally – include a Lennon and McCartney standard such as 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' in the 'Song of the Week'?
Or is the intention to continue with the truly colossal achievements as er… The Lion Sleeps Tonight?
Best Regards
Morgan Riordan
MARK SAYS: Well, since "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" has proved so popular, we're only doing animal songs now. So I'll put you down for "I Am The Walrus". Or "Octopus's Garden". You're right that we've never done a Lennon & McCartney number, but we have celebrated George Harrison's "Taxman" (Song of the Week #183).
