The trial of Salman Rushdie's assailant in upstate New York has finally begun. I'm still amazed that he survived such a brutal attack. The big question on the mind of the reporter covering the trial in the article I just read is, is the assailant a lone wolf or an agent of Iran?
I'm wondering would he need to be caught with a signed and notarized piece of paper, ordering him to kill Rushdie, in order to be considered doing the biding of the regime?

The ongoing trade and tariff tiff between the US and Canada has thrown a spanner into the works when it comes to the Conservatives trying to wrest control away from Justin Trudeau's Liberals. The US is the ultimate bogeyman of Canadian politics and it is astonishing to see all of the Canadian media and political sets harrumphing in unison while shedding their globalist cloaks to become staunch patriots. It makes me think of the old days when Pierre Trudeau snookered Robert Stanfield out of a decisive non-confidence vote. The real problem with Canada is that they slid from being a respected mid level power to becoming an international joke. Economically, it's usually easier for a Canadian company to sell its products to the US than it is to sell to Canadians, especially those in a different province. How can Poilievre and the Conservatives rail against the evil Americans while still selling Canadians on the idea that to effectively deal with the US, they're going to have to Make Canada Great Again.

Re: "You're fired", what line can Trump take that will work? It's very difficult to sack public servants in the UK. They usually whittle them down by not replacing them or the Govt offers them "severance packages". Is he hoping to fire judges and is that a good thing? We have just had case in London where the most senior judges were on the side of justice/free speech. A UK teacher who, in her maiden name in a private Facebook post made some remark about "the ideology" being taught at her son's church school and was sacked for it. She has spent six years fighting back, funded by a Christian charity and she has won, in The Court of Appeal. These judges say it is illegal to sack Christians for adhering to their faith (unless it is positively stated in law that you should).

Mark, as usual, you are depressingly correct. The fact that any low-level judge can halt the actions of the highest elected official is absurd, frightening, and discouraging. In America today, Democracy truly does die in the courtroom.

Hello Mark,
Yes, "a judges' republic is a contradiction in terms". Much of the blame lies in the House and Senate whose members would rather go on friendly news shows and preach to the choir than have debate and legislate from what are laughingly called the greatest deliberative bodies.
Take birthright citizenship as a most recent case in point. It's a simple question, do we want babies born to parents who are not US citizens or permanent residents granted US citizenship? Opposing sides will debate ad nauseam the 14th amendment and importance of the words "subject to the jurisdiction thereof".
So, Trump boldly declares an executive order regarding birthright citizenship, albeit 8 years late. On cue, congressmen and senators chime in on the debate and hoping after a few years of multiple court decisions the Supreme Court will finally agree. Might as well roll the dice in Las Vegas.
Our Founders devised a mechanism to allow the people to bypass the decisions of handful of judges. An amendment can be proposed with 2/3 majority support of the House and Senate, then ratified by at least state legislatures. A high bar indeed.
An amendment parroting Trump's EO on birthright citizenship should be quickly proposed and processed.
Ratification is not a sure thing. But what is for sure is that even if the EO sticks, or it is passed as a law the challenges would continue in the courts for years.

Here in the U.S., even with the urging of elected Democrats, there have been no major demonstrations as there were when Trump was first elected, and his approval ratings are through the roof. Do you think that this trend will continue and that right leaning parties will soon be in power or is this merely a hiccup?

Greetings Mark- hope you are well and staying warm if you're in our part of the Northeast.
Now that President Trump and Elon are going at breakneck speed to drain the Swamp, the Deep State and take out our Satanic Overlords, I am seeing a great deal of push back from our dear friend Naomi Wolf. Dr. Wolf had an incredible piece on Substack entitled "The Sack of Rome, Elon Musk's Digital Coup."
Since I am a big fan of hers and read everything she writes, I was very sorry to learn that she is so upset by what's going on with Elon and President Trump as they dismantle the corrupt and horrific bureaucracies that are destroying our world aka the Blob, the Swamp, et al.
According to Naomi:
".....data and IP (intellectual property) captivation will have made Musk (and the people with whom he now allies) more powerful than any President, including more powerful than President Trump; it will have made Musk more powerful than any nation-state, more powerful than the WEF and the WHO, more powerful than any prime minister, and more powerful than any other CEO or leader of any other set of corporations. "
So it seems to me that her point is that we should all fear Elon because he has taken over our data and will be using it against us, etc. etc.
First of all- that horse has already left the barn many years ago. Nothing we do is secret or sacred. The "Government", the Deep State, the Chinese, Walmart, Amazon, Google already have ALL of our data so what difference does it make? (as Hillary said).
Second and most important- Elon and his Big Balz crew of geeks are doing more to cut off the money from our Satanic Overlords than ANYONE ELSE who's been in power, including Pres. Trump.
We need to literally Stop the Steal before we are bankrupt.
What do you think? Care to comment on Dr. Naomi's suppositions?
