~Yesterday Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas took time out of his hectic schedule of cruising upscale menswear boutiques to visit hurricane-devastated western North Carolina and make sure all the roads and bridges leading to polling stations are still washed out.
It was predictable stuff - except for one exchange re an Afghan arrested in Oklahoma City on Monday for plotting a big Election Day terror attack. Mayorkas was smooth in his obstinacy, but it still came over as ...off:
Reporter: An Afghan national who was working for the CIA was arrested for plotting a terrorist attack on Election Day. How was he brought here?
Mayorkas: *Refuses to answer*
Reporter: We're getting conflicting answers from DHS
Mayorkas: *Gets angry*pic.twitter.com/IuI1QvauUE

So what's going on?
Well, it has now emerged that the alleged Election Day terrorist, Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, was a former CIA security guard. Per NBC News:
Afghan accused of plotting terror attack worked as CIA guard, officials say
Hmm. So we now have at least one would-be Trump assassin plus an Election Day terrorist with ties to the Deep State. The connections of the other would-be Trump assassin are a bit more circumstantial. Still, under the old Fleet Street rules, three's a trend - or to reprise Ian Fleming's famous line from Goldfinger:
Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. The third time it's enemy action.
So again: what's going on? Are all the lone wolves working for Langley? Mr Tawhedi's case came up at the White House press conference, but it didn't really go anywhere:
🔥🚨BREAKING NEWS: It has been confirmed that the Afghan refugee that was charged with plotting massive massacre on US election day worked for CIA.

Given the contradictory accounts from Homeland Security and the State Department, you get the feeling this latest plot twist emerged before the script had quite been finalised.
~DIVERSITY STABBING OF THE DAY: So a nice Spanish family took pity on Yahya Mazouri, a twenty-seven-year-old Moroccan migrant on his uppers, and let him move in to save rent. He repaid them by fatally stabbing their twenty-year-old daughter Kayle Villar Pons. The hospital counted more than twenty stab wounds in her chest.
Mr Mazouri was in the police database, for various drug-gang connections. He had been arrested multiple times, for assaulting young ladies on the street and for trying to bite immigration agents. But it was all very catch-and-release, so he remained at liberty and thus was able to slaughter young Kayle.
Such stories are always poignant. Western societies are governed by a corrupt and treasonous ruling class, who are all too aware that diversity is not our strength but a terminal illness rotting us out from within. We have passed the point of no return, but a few of the more arrogant wallahs think they can still "manage" the problem; the rest know that we are well beyond that. Either way, they arrange their own lives so that they are well away from the stabby stabbers.
Then there are chaps like yours truly, who are likewise aware that diversity is where nations go to die, and arrange our affairs as best we can.
But in between there is a vast number of people like poor Kayle Villar Pons who have bought in to all the bollocks. After all, our rulers wouldn't have spent the last half-century telling us "diversity is our strength" if it wasn't true, would they? And so they do their best to live it - and they die.
There is a reason that prudent societies through human history have never done this. But many more Kayle Villar Ponses will die in pursuit of this delusion.
~HOW TO AVOID BEING THE DIVERSITY STABBING OF THE DAY: Useful advice from the medical profession re the near two dozen stabbings per day in Germany. If you're planning on visiting, carry a towel - at all times:

Make sure it's a bath towel, not a face towel.
~NON-DIVERSITY STABBING OF THE DAY: The authorities in Marseille are grappling with the usual drug-gang turf-wars but with a level of "sauvagerie inédite" - unprecedented savagery:
Nicolas Bessone, procureur de la République de Marseille, a précisé, dimanche 6 octobre, que la victime du narchomicide de mercredi, « lardée de cinquante coups de couteau et brûlée vive », était un adolescent de 15 ans, et que le tueur présumé de celui de vendredi est âgé de 14 ans.
Which means:
Nicolas Bessone, public prosecutor of Marseille, said on Sunday that the victim of Wednesday's narco-homicide, 'stabbed fifty times and burned alive', was a fifteen-year-old youth, and that the alleged killer of Friday's narco-homicide was fourteen years old.
M le Procureur de la République (a preposterous title given that the Republic's writ does not run in these neighbourhoods) says these two cases are somehow linked. The victim in Friday's murder was a thirty-six-year-old cab-driver who, having driven the fourteen-year-old to where he wanted to go, then declined his passenger's request to wait there until the kid had completed whatever business he had to attend to. The fourteen-year-old pulled out a gun and shot the driver.
The slow-boiled Frogs are almost done now: One of the hallmarks of a stable society is the ease with which one can insulate oneself from its worst pathologies. As that poor cabbie discovered, it's getting harder and harder to do that in the new Europe.
~Lois Perry was hugely popular with audiences of The Mark Steyn Show. I especially enjoyed the show where she beat up the poor wee climate-change laddie from The Spectator. In May this year, Lois became leader of UKIP, Nigel Farage's old party. A month later, she was gone. I had wondered what she would do next, so I was thrilled to find this in my Twitter feed:
I am absolutely delighted to be signed as the face and legs of lingerie and hosiery brand fiore UK https://t.co/dOt8DJBoUt. It's a slight departure from leading @Nigel_Farage's old party @UKIP, but I love new experiences xx pic.twitter.com/d50rj946At

Congratulations, Lois. At this stage in America's interminable election season, I would welcome such a "slight departure" myself. Time and US litigation-without-end have done a number on my now ravaged visage, but my legs are still pretty shapely. Interested parties should feel free to email.
~In this eighth year of The Mark Steyn Club, we're very appreciative of all those who signed up in our first flush and are still eager to be here as we cruise on towards our first decade. We thank you all. For more information on the Club, see here.
