If I were to guess what has become of the agency, I'd suggest the move from Under Secretary of Treasury into the DHS behemoth plays a large part, whereas all large organizations tend to be inefficient and poorly managed. The agency requires stacks of young men willing to devote their lives to the mission, family de damned. There was an old saying that the USSS suffered from the Apache syndrome; they rode their horses until they died, then ate them. It's a job, unburdened by birthdays or Disney on Ice tickets.

My question for you is, assuming we could get rid of the FBI, CIA, and the dozens of other alphabet soup American law enforcement agencies, what would we replace them with? Would one umbrella federal law enforcement agency make sense? Or would that just ultimately make matters worse?
Thanks and God bless you for all of your work.

Mark, I think you go right to the heart of it when you ask, "Who gave the order to do nothing until after the assassin shot Trump, killed an innocent man on that stage, and fired round after round after round after round?"
May I try to flesh this out? I still can't quite bring myself to think there is a big conspiracy, but it's disturbingly easy to picture a single rogue secret service supervisor in the "command center." This supervisor sees an opportunity and takes it. She instructs the secret service agents in the field to stand down — don't engage the suspect and don't notify the agents on stage to cover Trump and get him away. She very much hopes to give the shooter a couple of minutes to get his shot off. She thinks a minute or two delay can always be justified later. The minutes drag on, she's gnashing her teeth, but she's not seeing a good moment where she can reverse course. This isn't just speculation.
As you say, it appears almost certain that some supervisor gave such a stand-down order. It's likewise much more likely than not that the supervisor was a DEI appointment — not merely someone unqualified but someone ideologically committed to DEI and the whole baggage of the hard Left that goes with it. This isn't exactly a "conspiracy." It's one wicked supervisor in the shadows of the command center seizing her unexpected moment.

Also, thinking about the assassin: seems that he has been walking around with rifle and range finder, in full view of anyone who cared to look. Moreover, if the snipers could see the shooter on the roof, then he could see them, too. Why was he so unfazed throughout? Did he know something? (although perhaps not the fact that assassins are usually taken out right after they do their bit)
Also the timing is interesting: a few days before the Republican convention, and before the VP was named. (Vance complicates things for them, as he is a more capable and younger version of Trump.) I would make sure he campaigns at different locations from DJT.
Most important of all: so they tried to assassinate Trump so brazenly that anyone with half a brain will understand this is not just a screw-up. Presumably, when Trump wins the election, this will be investigated and some smoking guns will be found. Can they possibly let that happen? I assume the next attempt will not take long, and this time they won't even be concerned with misdirection via 20-year olds, which leaves so much to chance. I assume they will also activate their rioters, to make the streets, and the country, inhospitable to anyone who asks questions. This might get very ugly very quickly.
