Hello Mark,
Thanks for hosting another Clubland Q&A. I believe our pundit class often mistakenly characterizes America's adversaries as "crazy".
Maybe those that orchestrated the attack on Israel were not so crazy. Sure, they expected to be pounded mercilessly from Israel's retaliation. However, they may have been confident that the mayhem happening on our campuses would occur; based on their assessment of feckless Biden administration and university leadership, along with our youth indoctrinated for years to be anti-USA while egged on by their agents on our shores, Now, what's next?
As an aside, we need to look no further than the mess that is California and our universities to predict the outcomes when the Left has their way.
Your thoughts?

These protesters for Hamas and its slogan of genocide confound me as to what they expect is their goal. And then what happens after that becomes the new question. If they get what they're chanting for, the complete and utter destruction of Israel and all Judaic persons, then what? Back to more stone age barbarianism? Yet they call Trump Hitler.
As to the starving "students " are they asking for halal meals? I'm pretty sure they can get halal in Gitmo.

I notice the female 'student' protestors at Colombia for instance aren't wearing what females in Palestine wear but the keffiyeh scarf. Also they don't seem to mind that probably minority member janitors were being held hostage in the academic building.

We are past the point of invasion, it is now an Islamic occupation in Europe and we need to shatter the Overton Window to course correct.
What are your thoughts?

Dear Mark,
With what's currently taking place on college campuses throughout America the year 1968 is frequently invoked. It seems divine providence that the Democrats will be hosting their convention in Chicago just as they did in that fateful year with the expectation of similar protests. Back then the windy city coppers didn't put up with the nonsense and were happy to apply batons to noggins to restore order.
Do you think the police have the will to react similarly this time around and will the anticipated chaos have the same effect on voters as in 1968 and usher in a Trump administration?
Take good care of yourself and as i expect to get my money's worth from my eighth year of membership in the Mark Steyn club.

Mark: I wonder what you think of the tweet your friend Naomi Wolf posted yesterday about Oct 7 and what's happening on US campuses. How is it possible for a supposed Jewish intellectual to be so incredibly misinformed about Oct 7?. She said:
"What was Oct 7? A situation in which a few terrorists infiltrated a gathering of young people, took hostages, and this brought a nation to its knees. No disrespect to the cause of ceasefire, but: What could happen in one moment, on 100 campuses in N America, on some of which students are locked IN to buildings, as at Columbia, w/ 'organizers'? Same situation. A mass hostage-taking of the elites' kids."

If Hamas serves as the Palestinian resistance, and a majority of Palestinians (some 90% of those surveyed, although I'm not sure how reliable such surveys are) support the terrorist attacks on Oct. 7th, then how is it possible to "support" one and not the other?
I read about these protests for Palestinian freedom, and watch the Biden administration clumsily attempt to "split the baby" and play to both sides, I once again feel like I'm in the bizarro-world.
Thoughts?

Originally, I had stuck with Hercule Poirot (and all of the video incarnations) and Lord Peter Whimsey (some of the books and was so so on the videos)
Tommy and Tuppence! I have got the book. Liked it. I've order both sets of video productions.
The 2015 incarnation arrived first. Even as I watched it, I knew this wasn't what Agatha Christe had in mind. It strove for the dizzying heights of mediocrity and failed.
One scene summed up all the problems. Tuppence, a mere slip of a girl, hauls off and knocks out a sailor smuggler almost twice her size. Out cold. Hold on a moment! She doesn't have the weight behind her, nor does she have the upper body strength Tuppence would have to be built like Popeye. And finally, even if she managed unbelievably somehow to do this feat her fingers and hand would be broken to painful bits, and she would be screaming in agony.
I'm all for the willing suspension of belief. but this just required too much suspension.
Why aren't the obvious problems with scenes like this not obvious to be the people writing and filming them.

Dear Mark,
I still delight in certain delicious linguistic pleasures: Rowan Atkinson aspirating the name 'Bob', Stephen Fry spluttering the word 'arse' and a hefty Canadian prophet pronouncing the term 'bollocks.' It works for me! I've adopted your phrase 'Up the wazoo' in cultural reciprocation.
Speaking of Stephen Fry, I've always found it curious for so talented a writer that his masterpiece should be his autobiography. May I echo a fellow listener who recently asked after your autobiography which I suspect may run to several volumes. Just the tidbits offered in recent weeks about Benny Green, Garrison Keillor and Betty Comden left me wanting to hear so much more. And was I right to infer you enjoyed a rather warm relationship with the lovely Linda Lewis?
Local elections in England tomorrow and a knock on the door last week had the Liberal Democrat candidate present himself. As I was about to unload on him my views on immigration, diversity and gender identity I suddenly stopped and wondered if this guy could report me for hate speech. We talked about the cost of living instead and how supermarkets just seem to use random numbers now when pricing goods and I kept my primary feelings to myself. Being a full-time carer I told myself afterwards that I was just protecting my 100-year-old Mum but the fact is I was cowed. I bowed down rather than say 'the wrong thing'. I have written to newspapers, TV stations and most of our Devon MPs in the past on various matters but on this occasion they got to me. Or rather, I got to me. Not a great feeling.
I salute you again, Mr Steyn, for having the guts to speak out when so many of us look the other way. It must be lonely.
Best wishes,
Bideford Jake

Do you think the Muslims who take over the local city or town governments in Europe and eventually the US will do land acknowledgment statements before their meetings? "We are meeting on lands that used to belong the Gauls and etc?"
Do you ever feel well things are lost and you might as well just go back discussing Art and Music full time before it is all gone?
Final question should we just go John Galt and head to the hills?

Hi Mark, long time listener first time subscriber. Last week we got back from our first trip to Ireland. We mostly stayed in the Belfast area helping a friend fix her house after renters ransacked it. We really enjoyed Belfast. A few things that stood out to me was when we stayed in the city three nights in a 'multi-cultural neighborhood' and there were Israeli flags flying on the street-lights --undisturbed. Every morning when I opened the door there, they were--gloriously undisturbed! Also, most people who I talked any kind of politics seemed to favor Trump, and claimed Northern Ireland benefitted when Trump was in office. In return I asked to find some understanding of Brexit. I still dont seem to have a good grasp of it. You are probably sick of talking on Brexit but I am late for Brexit class and still looking to understand. You usually can get to the points I'll need.

I try to be rational about the prospects for an apocalypse and know there have been a lot of Hale Bopp Heaven's Gate prophesies that didn't pan out. I also try to discount the feelings of mortality that come with growing old and declining health, but I look around and I have to ask, "are things as bad as they appear?" Wars and rumors of wars, the dollar being eroded to nothing, an actual invasion of our borders and the powers that be are not only not doing anything to prevent these problems, are actually aiding and abetting the decline. So, I think today should be thought of as MAYDAY! MAYDAY!, the international distress signal.
PS. Does BFD mean something different in Quebecois than it does in American English?
