For the life of me I can't understand what the ruling classes of the west have to gain by tearing down our civilization. Why do they think it's to their benefit to promote incompetency in fields like science, governance, academia and the arts? They already have wealth and power so there must be more to it than meets the eye.
Even the most ignorant of our elite must understand that food doesn't magically show up on the table (even in Michelin rated restaurants), that fossil fuels are the most plentiful and efficient form of the energy they require for their mansions, yachts and private jets and that it takes an educated, competent population in order to keep the lights on as it were.
These elites might not care about us, but what do they expect to bequeath to their own offspring in a world gone to seed? Why wouldn't they rather retain their good fortune in a prosperous world than sit on a throne overseeing a world of decay?
Take good care of yourself and continue fighting the darkness.

Any idea on the status of the captured ISIS-K terrorists? It's shocking that a so called extremist attack would result in all participants captured and from the looks of one video, without resistance or incident. It is almost as if they knew they wouldn't be killed. I don't trust our intelligence because they couldn't stop the Kabul attack and bomb an innocent family on the way out of Afghanistan. Anything they got that was credible was allowed to be given to them. I don't think it was by accident. What say you Mark?

I think of the people and careers referenced in "Mark Steyn's American Songbook" or "Broadway Babies Say Goodnight" (both still available at the SteynOnline store) and on the surface, there appears to be a trend.
What do you think about this, and if this is happening, why?

Dear Mark, I had to sign up to the club after your scintillating show last week. Thank you for introducing me to Steve Lawrence and by extension the fabulous Ad-Men sketch on the Carol Burnett show. Such pure, unalloyed pleasure seemed a distant memory. I agree with you that many can sing but not all can swing and Lawrence certainly did those standards proud. That Cole Porter line always affects - 'Are you my life to be?'
The lines I quoted are by Jake Thackray, for me, the finest English songwriter of recent years. If anyone remembers him now it's usually as 'that weird-looking guy who sang the funny songs on Braden's Week.' But he was so much more than that. His later recording of The Blacksmith & the Toffee Maker is I think one of the highest forms of the song writing craft. Jake was always self-deprecating but was forever praising the songs of his friend and idol, George Brassens, who he claimed was "Head, shoulders, knees and ankles above all other singers." As a Francophile, Mark, do you rate George Brassens and did you ever meet Jake Thackray?
Thank you as ever, for speaking out against the madness. Someone said on Free Speech Nation last week that when she looks out on her society and culture it feels as though she's living in a psychiatric ward. I second that. And Mark Steyn is R P McMurphy!

Dear Mr. Steyn,
The events you cited as evidence of a lack of turbulence, the January 6th protest and the Canadian Truckers protests, are prime examples of turbulence. Turbulence exists amongst the proletarian and bourgeois classes, but not amongst the ruling classes.
Revolutionary movements require someone or a group of people with political power to take control of them and direct them towards a realistic strategic objective. Without such people to control an outbreak of revolutionary resistance, the movement fails, as did the January 6th and Canadian Truckers protests. Had these protests been led and directed by people with power or those willing to take power they would have stood more chance of success. Instead, they were both leaderless mobs.
Those who should have taken the reins of control, Republican politicians, didn't, which is why these movements failed. It isn't the people that lack turbulence, amongst them there is plenty. It is our Republican politicians who lack turbulence, or, in other words: moral fibre.
I still stand by my comments from last Friday. I hate this country, if you can even call it a country. I hate the flag, I hate the government, and I hate the Declaration of Independence too! The words "all men are created equal" are the stupidest set of words ever put on paper. They exceed Ibram X. Kendi's writings in their stupidity because Jefferson and his contemporaries knew better while Kendi is a retard. I'll take rule by a King and House of Lords with veto power over the House of Commons and Rotten Boroughs over American Federalism any bloody day of the week!
The reason I hate this country is that like the Soviet Union, it is built on a lie and I am tired of living by lies. Men are not created equal. All men are different, some better than others. No one will lie to my face and tell me Rishi Sunak, Boris Johnson, or Dianne Abbot are my equals. The longer people accept and live by lies the greater is the debt to the truth. A huge debt is accumulating and the creditors are coming.
Yours Faithfully,
William

The spectacle of European farmers' demonstrations is back in the news, with a protest hitting London. You can find details on the YouTube site of a charming chap named Jeff Taylor. Like other such affairs, some of the protest is over bread-and-butter policy issues but heat is also drawn by the impositions of the nutty Net Zero delusion by Government. Now politicians often play the myopic short sighted gain game (think about how they spend money fighting the evils of smoking and subsidize tobacco farmers) and isn't the Net Zero push more of the same? Consider:
i.) There will be a demand for food, no matter what. Surely they'll just be off shoring the "pollution" to countries that may have lower standards of practice? And what will this do to the price of food for the consumer?
ii) And now for the big Global picture. Is their attack on their own Agriculture really a "killing of the land", increasing global food insecurity by decreasing the total of Earth's tilled land?
iii.) If they have a hidden agenda of force feeding us weird alternative substitutes (bugs, synthetic goodies of all yummy flavors) are they maybe betting on untested technologies, a gamble that could prove catastrophic?
iv.) And do observe that all this fundamental change is being enacted by mandarin edict, not the democratic process. In our latter day Poo-Baa's there beats a totalitarian heart.

She demolished one in an interview and the other is clearly not playing with a full deck and yet DW decides to get rid of Candace? It seems the real reason is because she won't 100% back Israel, as Shapiro and company do, and that's why she's got the boot. So much for free speech. This is why the Right loses out with many younger people by the way, they are totally out of touch with where the audience is now. Thoughts on this situation please?
