PM Barbecue (er, Babekyou, in the Creole) coming soon;
It is 8PM in Dublin where Irish PM Leo Varadkar resigned today after failing to strike mothers from the Irish Constitution;
9PM in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo where PM Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde resigned in late Feb. and will remain in the legislative body and whose government continues to run the government;

I think you are wrong when you say there is no turbulence. There is turbulence, but it lacks direction, and because it lacks direction, it takes the form of self-destructive behavior, like addiction and despair leading to suicide, or intense anger and hatred resulting in mass shootings.
I think you're correct that INC style civil disobedience will get us nowhere. Instead, I now think that President Trump, the people at Vdare, and the states should ignore federal law and Supreme Court decisions until the Federal government actually does something to fix the damned problems afflicting this country. If Republican politicians in power at the state and local level would start actively pushing back, millions would get behind them, and the turbulence would be directed in a productive manner.
Personally, I no longer think this country is worth saving. I feel the same way about the US as my in-laws did about the Soviet Union. I hate the Constitution, I hate its starry banner striped with so much blood, and I hate this land of "freedom" too. American freedom be damned. Freedom to do what? Watch porn? Get high on opiates? Freedom to be a degenerate is not freedom.

Dear Mark, I had to sign up to the club after your scintillating show last week. Thank you for introducing me to Steve Lawrence and by extension the fabulous Ad-Men sketch on the Carol Burnett show. Such pure, unalloyed pleasure seemed a distant memory. I agree with you that many can sing but not all can swing and Lawrence certainly did those standards proud. That Cole Porter line always affects - 'Are you my life to be?'
The lines I quoted are by Jake Thackray, for me, the finest English songwriter of recent years. If anyone remembers him now it's usually as 'that weird-looking guy who sang the funny songs on Braden's Week.' But he was so much more than that. His later recording of The Blacksmith & the Toffee Maker is I think one of the highest forms of the songwriting craft. Jake was always self-deprecating but was forever praising the songs of his friend and idol, George Brassens, who he claimed was "Head, shoulders, knees and ankles above all other singers." As a Francophile, Mark, do you rate George Brassens and did you ever meet Jake Thackray?

Prayers for continued improvement of your health, Mark! (I hope it's improving...) Your conversation with Conrad Black reinforced my belief in the utter corruption and incompetency of the U.S. legal system. It also brought to mind the recent Supreme Court decision against Colorado's effort to remove Trump from its ballot. The decision was obviously correct; in multiple articles, the justices were quoted as saying that Section 3 of the 14th Amendment did not apply, and doubted that this Section (quoting Justice Roberts here).."....lets a single state have such a broad impact on a presidential election."
But hold on! In 2021 the Court refused to hear Texas' case against Georgia, for Georgia violating its own constitution in accepting, as legal, all sorts of voting anomalies. The Supremes then said, 9-0, that Texas had "no standing" in a matter concluded by Georgia. So, on one hand, the Supremes decided that Georgia's violation of its own laws had no bearing on anyone else. Yet now, a primary justification for this most-recent decision is that an action of Colorado could indeed affect other states. Perhaps if the Court they had performed their "constitutional duty" in 2021, much injustice could have been avoided. Am I wrong?

Man and woman become one and multiply by conceiving a child but God conceives the soul. We are given the opportunity to choose God's love through a lifetime in this fallen world. I have come to believe that choosing God and eternity with him makes the temptations of evil in this world are easier to resist. Indeed, a rationale for a government approved narrative is that it's necessary for national security as other governments are weaponizing social media for their own purposes. It appears that historians will say the First Amendment didn't survive long after the invention of social media, nor free expression in the west generally.
If free expression was always dependent on the fortitude of at least five justices on the Supreme Court, was its abolition inevitable?
