Greetings and welcome to this week's batch of Laura's Links.
By the time you read this, it will be smack dab in the middle of the saddest day of the Jewish calendar, Tisha B'Av, so I'll be fasting and lamenting. My fast started Wednesday evening and will be over Thursday night after dark. The fast and the reading of "Eicha", or Lamentations, is the very difficult end to the Three Weeks of Mourning before the holiday, the "Nine Days" that precede the fast. I find this fast and the entire period of the Three Weeks way more difficult than the Yom Kippur fast. A sensation of dread and trepidation fills the entire Three Weeks, and the feeling of loss is all-consuming.
One of the central lessons of the holiday is the absolute danger to the Jewish people of baseless hatred ("sinat chinam" in Hebrew) against one another, and the critical need within our community for baseless love of one another ("ahavat chinam"). Baseless hatred of one another brought disaster upon us. As a result of this historical fact and pattern, the eruption of minor civil war shockwaves in Israel during this time of the Jewish calendar also sends chills up my spine.
But wait, there's more from the depressing news department! If you are so inclined, you may wish to check out this brief clip of author and journalist Helen Joyce sloooowly and clearly explaining transmania.
I don't want to leave you completely bummed out, so make sure you see this video of parents fighting back against woke ideology, and winning. It's really a beautiful sight to behold.
I continue to muddle through a number of very challenging situations, so thank you for all your kind comments and notes of support. It really means a lot. Hoping and praying for brighter days ahead and I will see you in the comment section.
