Question: "Life After Trump": when will the GOP finally dump him? Trump is the only Republican nominee that Biden or some other Dem (other than Kamila) could defeat. Aside from being a horrible human being, Trump is a LOSER politically. Time for the Trumpanzees to cut him loose! (Even Lord Black has called for Trump to step aside in his NP column.)

What kind of power lock does Mitch McConnell have on the party, and why is Ronna McDaniel treated also as irreplaceable? I'm so sick of this. Mitch McConnell just said that Ukraine was the number one priority of the American government. Not the border, not unemployment, not the fentanyl crisis-Ukraine. Hi Mark
A tale for our times rather than a question as such. When I was a child I used to go swimming in a lovely hotel pool near to where we lived (ordinary middle class rural England.) It wasn't expensive or particularly fancy, it was just a pleasant hotel with a nice indoor pool.
I recently looked up going there in the new year. It no longer accepts guests because it's apparently part of the UK government's scheme to 'temporarily' house asylum seekers. The Sun covered the fact they laid off the hotel staff with just 13 days notice. Judging by the asylum seekers photos in the paper these were entirely young men from the Middle East, hanging round on the lawn browsing on their iPhones. None of us are surprised about that. But I am shocked that this lovely hotel was just taken over in this way, forever changing it.
What will become of the men? Will they just disappear into the local black economy? What will it mean for the town? And the nice hotel- will that ever reopen? Will people want to stay there again given its current usage? Just a personal reflection of something quite sad that is forever lost.
Anyway - putting that aside; Merry Christmas to you, hope you are able to enjoy some nice French wine this year

Do you reckon this the end stage of civilisational decline as alluded by GK Chesterton (man's loss of belief in God replaced not by nothing but by anything) or upon hitting rock bottom is there any optimism we can bounce back from the madness which is engulfing our society?

Dr. Bhattacharya recently said that censorship by Big Tech cost lives. He said that world leaders with Big Tech tried to create an illusion of scientific consensus by censoring discussion. Does that sound about right? Have I been mislead for 40 years or missed some new papal dictate? I'm finding it harder and harder to understand the ever changing progressive world. There seems to be no limit to the flexibility of progressive principles.

Dear Mark,
First, regarding your comments on being properly dressed, can there be an exception for wearing t-shirts so long as you're from Texas and also wearing properly authorized jeans, boots, and a large belt buckle?
Also, since I arrived in Texas, I have started working as a teacher, and in my position, it is easy to see how far the rot has gone in Western Civilization. Students in this state are given the STAAR exam, to which a school's status is tied. As a result, teachers are forced to teach to this test all year round. No knowledge is gained.
Teachers and administrators love to complain about this exam and the Texas Education Agency, the bureaucrats responsible for creating the exam. I've voiced my opinion as to what the solution should be; refuse to give the exam and get as many school districts and parents onboard with the boycott as possible.
However, everyone always responds with, "Oh, well, we can't do that. The TEA would get mad and try to shut us down." Well, that's the bloody point, isn't it? Orwell was right when he said there is no turbulence left in England. There's none in "red state" gun-tottin' Texas either.
This refusal to take on these so-called civil servants and reassert sovereignty over our lives highlights the problem of our society: we are cowards.
Respectfully,

As a result of your shows, I've included the "Wexford Carol" and "Bring a Torch Jeanette Isabella", to my selections. I even include some of the factoids you share about songs with your listeners to my audience. They, like me are fascinated.
Speaking of your Songs of the Week broadcasts. have you ever considered shows dedicated to novelty/humor songs. Not the silly type that entertained me when I was a kid, but ones that are a little cleverer and more suited for adults. For instance, I make it a point of playing and singing "St. Stephen's Day Murders" for my audience during the Christmas season. It's a song composed by Paddy Maloney and Elvis Costello all about what you feel like doing to the hangers-on who won't leave when you're hosting the family Christmas gathering.
The Chieftains have a Christmas Album from several years ago that has become a seasonal staple for our family. It contains the Maloney/Costello song along with other very good selections you have featured on Songs of the Week.
Thanks Mark. You've made my holidays more delightful, Get better. That's an order!
