Once upon a time the San Remo Song Festival in Italy was a serious event that produced some excellent songs and singers. But what do you think about the Eurovision Song Contest (coming up tomorrow in Turin)? Was it ever worth watching?

Mark, what music first made you fall in love with songwriting? Were the songs the lure that drew you into musicals, or was it the magic of the theater/something else? Were you drawn to musicals first, or did music on the radio lead you to discover musicals? If so, what music did you listen to as a boy?
Did your parents instill in you a love for music?

Having been absent from the Mark Steyn Club I recently re-upped for another year. I did so because you are IMO one of the few voices standing up against the various forms of insanity that is rampant not only in American but so many countries around the globe. May you be able to continue doing so for a long time.

Hey Mark and fellow Club members. I'm old enough to remember when the left was for free speech. Since the internet age began, hard core pornography has been accessible with a few pushes of a button and a decent internet connection. While I think that the left would continue to defend my right to view multi partner clown porn, they have gone in the complete opposite direction when it comes to questioning the government. You've well covered the Astra zenica vaccine injuries, and the foul ups of our ruling class are piling up faster than the rate of inflation. Is there a connection between the push to censor and the failures of our ruling class?

How do you assess the UK response to this war? If not for Britain....

Hi Mark,
Bernie Sanders and 'the Squad' voted to send another $40 b, without any oversight, to the Russo/American Proxy War currently being played out in Ukraine. Does that signal the official end of the left wing anti-war movement? Everyone is on board with this thing now, except a few voices on the right, who are either ignored or condemned as "Putin ass-kissers" (Mark Levin's opinion). Love the club, you're doing great for a 137 yr old :)

Hi Mark,
Whenever one goes to some get together where music is played, invariably it winds up being pop tunes that are 30, 40, 50, 60 or even 70 years old. Back in the 60's, I don't remember hearing Rudy Vallee's greatest hits all the time, but in essence that's what's going on now. Other than the occasional song escaping a Broadway show or a movie soundtrack, is there any current source of "pop" music that isn't from a niche market and actually has a tune and lyrics that won't get you arrested for reciting it in mixed company?

Hey Mark - can you stop giving shout-outs to "First Fortnight" or "First Weekend" or "First Day" Founding Members. It's discriminatory, and not very Christian to those of us who only joined recently.

9 "The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius. 10 So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. 11 When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. 12 'These who were hired last worked only one hour,' they said, 'and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.'
I might remind you of these words from the Gospel of Matthew:
8 "When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, 'Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.'
9 "The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius.
10 So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius.
11 When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner.
12 'These who were hired last worked only one hour,' they said, 'and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.
13 "But he answered one of them, 'I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn't you agree to work for a denarius?
14 Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you.
15 Don't I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?'
I think you are a generous Christian soul and should give your Club Members equal "Founding Day" status. I might add that I self-identify as a First Day Founding Member even though I only coughed up in 2021.

In a chapter from "After America" you very effectively frame the practical relevance of billions and trillions of dollars. Well, $40 billion to Ukraine, spending which prorates to nearly $500 for a family of four, is money printed that will feed the coffers of the defense industry without producing any additional consumer goods or services in the U.S. to chase. How about just a bit more inflation, anyone?
