With the blessed assurance that the subject of hit songs written 100 years ago will never bore the pants off you, I notice a certain fixation on China entering the Hit Parade of 1922. Do you care to comment on the origins of the fact that "Limehouse Blues" and "China Boy" were written in 1922, or that dance crazes (human beings actually touching!) were so popular shortly after the worst pandemic in American history, or that libertarian themes were reflected in songs like "Runnin Wild, Lost Control..." or "Tain't Nobody's Business if I Do."? Is there hope for life after Covid, or our post-COVID hit parade?
Some of the most recorded songs written 100 years ago began with the Chica connection.
#1-Limehouse Blues
#2-China Boy
#3-On the Alamo (Isham Jones's first hit, with words by Gus Kahn)
#4-Way Down Yonder in New Orleans (Creamer and Layton, a black songwriting team)
#5-Farewell Blues (another New Orleans standard)
#6-Runnin Wild (a flapper anthem)
#7-My Buddy (Gus Kahn and Walter Donaldson's first collaboration
#8-Chicago (by Fred Fisher, born in Germany)
#9-Do it Again (Gershwin's sultry standard, as re-emerges after Swanee)
10-Taint Nobody's Business (co-written by Bessie Smith's pianist)

Dear Mark,
I'm growing more convinced on what the real Great Reset is. To be put simply: Making the west more like China. They're making it more and more apparent that if the west did things the way that they did in China like how their people listen to the CCP and don't question them, issues like race relations and COVID wouldn't be an issue. Do you feel the same way? Your thoughts Mark.

Dr Fauci is the epitome of the lack of accountability in the government bureaucracy. How can anyone argue that he is any longer effective as the spokesperson for the government's response to COVID, yet he still persists. Who is the boss, the employer or the employee?

May I wave the U.S. Constitution for a bit? The Austrian Parliament passed a law requiring mandatory vaccinations for all citizens. What recourse do Austrians now have? It's the tyranny of the majority.
At least in the U.S. we have a judicial review with reliance on our Constitution to declare such laws "unconstitutional". You thoughts?

Maybe it's time for the "The 108 Years Ago Show".
James Mason's character, in his opening monologue, for "The Shooting Party" talks of a "test of strength" between the European powers (which will lead to WWI). Once everyone starts talking about war.. it becomes almost self fulfilling. Mark...what do you see as a possible course of events now?

Hi Mark,
Love the GB News shows and your weekly appearances with James on his radio show! In the 1970s, Nixon famously split the Sino-Soviet alliance. Now, it appears that those two nations are working hand in hand to take down the U.S. Do you think Putin is amassing troops on the Ukraine border in attempt to draw the U.S. into war so the Chinese can take Taiwan without any resistance from the U.S. after the Winter Olympics are over?
Best regards,

Hey Mark!
Thanks for all you do.
What do you think of this:
The four US Seniorcidal governors (Cuomovirus, Whitmer, Murphy, Wolfe) didn't dispatch seniors as a failure of policy but as an expression of their policy as an AUDITION for higher office. The cover charge is a willingness to harm Americans. The current audition is infanticidal governors willingness to injure children via useless and unnecessary jabs.

Mr. Steyn,
Here is a question I've wanted a second opinion on for decades. It's been hard to find someone with the necessary historical knowledge who would entertain the question but you may be the one.
I base this on having recently finished "Prisoner of Windsor" with it's numerous historical references and your comment during one of the December Clubland Q&A's about your kid telling you that you can't talk to Americans about monarchy because they don't have the necessary reverence.
I'm American and have always been. However, my ancestry is British and the only times I've left the country have been to go to Britain. I'm sure that I don't have the necessary reverence to appreciate monarchy fully but I do have some and can say that my two favorite kings are the "bookends" of the Plantagenets, Henry II, whom I consider to be the greatest king, having built an English empire, even if his sons quickly squandered it and Richard III, the greatest potential king.
After all that, the question will probably be a letdown, here it is, do you think Thomas Becket was a bad friend to Henry II? That sounds childish but do you think that Becket should have more specifically warned Henry about the consequences of making Becket Archbishop of Canterbury than he did? This question is based on the time they spent together prior. It is usually viewed as Becket being more holy than he let on but do you think that's all there was to it?
Does it matter? Probably not at this point. Isn't it nice to occasionally think about something other than how the world is falling apart?
Thank you for your consideration.

A couple of quick questions:
1) if Doreen Lawrence can be appointed to the House of Lords, why not Sammy Woodhouse? Let's have some attacking play here. Get some discussion going on GB News.
2) our own Justin has often been compared to Al Jolson, but there's a closer, more accurate comparison. Have a look at Birth Of A Nation (not the whole movie), and watch how many of the white actors have blackened their arms as well as their faces.
Just like Justin. So a "Birth of a Nation" impersonator.
This comparison should be out there, too.

Hi Mark,
I know you don't do a lot of Rock 'n Roll or your Sunday Steyn's Song of the Week, but with the passing of Meatloaf I thought it might be fitting, as a change of pace, to delve into Paradise by the Dashboard Light by Meatloaf. His collaboration with Jim Steinman which combined Steinman's theatrical style and Meatloaf's operatic voice to produce a unique style of music is worthy of exploration. Meatloaf also went on to have a career in movies and not just in music. As the GB News anchor stated during your show he was in 65 movies during his life. Most notably "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," and "Wayne's World." With your knowledge of the music industry and entertainment I was hoping you could shed some light on his career and on this song in particular. I would like nothing more than to sit around the Sunday dinner table with all the Steyn Club members and enjoy a little Meatloaf.
