I'm American and have always been. However, my ancestry is British and the only times I've left the country have been to go to Britain. I'm sure that I don't have the necessary reverence to appreciate monarchy fully but I do have some and can say that my two favorite kings are the "bookends" of the Plantagenets, Henry II, whom I consider to be the greatest king, having built an English empire, even if his sons quickly squandered it and Richard III, the greatest potential king.
After all that, the question will probably be a letdown, here it is, do you think Thomas Becket was a bad friend to Henry II? That sounds childish but do you think that Becket should have more specifically warned Henry about the consequences of making Becket Archbishop of Canterbury than he did? This question is based on the time they spent together prior. It is usually viewed as Becket being more holy than he let on but do you think that's all there was to it?
Does it matter? Probably not at this point. Isn't it nice to occasionally think about something other than how the world is falling apart?
