I'd be interested in your take on New Zealand. In Australia it seems at least some of the natives are grumbling about dystopian lockdown policies. But I read today that over 87% of Kiwis support their government's "zero covid" policies, which have taken lock downs to a whole new level of crazy. Bat$@# crazy. How to explain such a reaction among a once free people? Is media propaganda really so powerful? Is this a sort of mass Stockholm Syndrome?

Before Kathy Shaidle passed away, she inspired me to improve my movie literacy, particularly her interest in the works of Kurosawa and other postwar Japanese films. Previously I was indifferent to movies, having grown up in the cultural dark ages that produced works like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". My question for you is this: Will America's humiliating defeat in Afghanistan provoke an improvement in the quality of American art parallel to what happened in Japan after World War II, or will the Jihadists or China have to nuke a couple of American cities before that happens?

Greetings Mark from the Brit Expat on the Colorado High Plains !
Have not managed to write in for a while but I was struck by a post from the Gateway Pundit that people in Australia are having their parcels searched for alcohol..
"Residents in apartment blocks locked-down by NSW Health are having their alcohol deliveries policed as part of a policy to limit the number of drinks being consumed each day," NCA News Wire reported.
Government goons are rummaging through private mail deliveries, confiscating alcohol and telling Aussies they can only receive a ration of "six beers or pre-mixed drinks or one bottle of wine."
Along with other things, like the almost total media blackout on the Trucker blockade protest it would seem that the "mate culture" so beloved of the Antipodeans as evidence of their lack of kow-towing to elites, has actually turned into a rather grotesque example of abject servility.
How on earth were these people bought so low?

Your reading of Burning Daylight was so timely. I had read London's (semi-autobiographical) Martin Eden shortly before, and while I had found Eden's vitality and intellectual drive attractive, his ultimate self-destruction belied the value of those traits and his successes. Perhaps one reason Burning Daylight (1910) was London's most popular book was because it came on the heels of Eden's tragic hero (1909) ...? Elam Harnish's raw physical and intellectual energy, his fearlessness and (dare I say) unabashed masculinity, his achievements in the North, his reversals of fortune in NYC and the Bay Area and his life-saving choices with Dede and the ranch make for a riveting and inspirational story. Is that why you chose it?

What does it say that the media is so brazen that they now refuse to retract stories that are outright lies? Then again the Times still has yet to renounce Walter Durante's Pulitzer so par for the course I guess.

Even though it is visible that Biden is a disaster, it doesn't seem to matter to the Dems, their voters, or to the RINOs that wanted him there. Take it from someone that was told that the Kraken was going to be released to THE DURHAM REPORT bringing justice, I'm no longer in the mood to be told things just to keep my hopes up. Do you see something changing in America? Your thoughts Mark.

The two of you were a great combo. Serious news and show tunes. Like Rush in the last months I can hear your frustration with everyone constantly asking "But what should we do???" You are the example. To quote Obama(sorry): We are the ones we've been waiting for. We need to follow your example, though we aren't as well spoken as you, and push back. Last Clubland Q&A, you spent some time discussing the benefits of imperialism specifically with the British empire. I was hoping you could talk about the development of Europe, specifically western Europe which was part of the Roman Empire vs eastern Europe which was not. Western Europeans are still reaping the benefits of Roman civilization. One fun fact: we hear so much about what a horrible racist country America is, but the difference between black/white income in the US is less than the difference between average income between western and eastern Europeans. I guess that half of the Euro delegation is just a bunch of white supremacists!
Thank you!

Biden's poll numbers are tanking as the country is a mess across the board. Harping on Biden's senility and incompetence, while good fodder for the pundits, distracts from the root cause. Our mess is due the Left's policies. Would things be any better under a President Harris, or any other Dem? Republicans seem content to let the mess fester for another year until the mid-terms. We have an opposition party in the minority, that shows little knack or energy to mobilize opposition beyond blowing hot air on the cable shows. Your thoughts?

Mark, I have been rather amazed at the quality of the responses I get from R candidates following 3- and 4 figure donations. Instead of a thank you, I get endless appeals for additional donations of $5 or $10 dollars. It is apparent that there is a disconnect between the branch that receives the money, and the rather larger organization that beats the bushes for new donations. On reflection, I have begun to think that the Republican donation organization is basically an Amway style marketing operation. Every two years they get 435 hopeful Congressional candidates and 30 or so Senate candidates. These candidates seem to be selected mainly for their ability to raise money. Their efforts result in the identification of vast numbers of people who are willing to part with their hard earned money for various categories of political projects. And that is the key. This list will remain of value long after the candidates have receded into the ranks of once-hopeful politicians. So the operation can continue year after year. This explains the hundreds of emails i get from organizations and personalities (presumably) that write me asking for money for whatever cause they seem to think I will view with favor. These used to be called boiler-room operations, since that was the cheapest space you could rent for the squad of people making cold-calls asking for money. I'm sure the latest version is now much more upscale, perhaps even working from home with a solid internet connection.
This would also explain the lack of interest of the mainline Republicans in exercising power. That was never their intent.
