Hi Mark,
Hello from Tony, a first-month Mark Steyn Club member here in Dublin.
You usually refer to the dictator who heads the illegitimate, imperialist, Communist gang that has been running China (and killing tens of millions of its own people) since 1949 as "Chairman Xi", a very respectful term.
But insofar as Xi is right now incarcerating a million Uighur Muslims (for being Muslims and for not being Han) and has indentured very many of them into forced - ie slave - labour, would it not be more appropriate - and less respectful - to refer to him as Slaver Xi?
After all, the world's wokest anti-slavers are nowadays running short of statues of two-hundred-year-old white, male, imperialist slavers to tear down and toss into rivers.
Should we therefore not be drawing the wokists' attention - and indeed everyone's - to a real live almost-white, male, imperialist slaver who is in action today?
Slaver Xi.

What's with the recent moves by so called "anti Asian-hate" groups flooding the airwaves accusing everyone else of victimizing Asians and calls to stop the "hate"? Is this just another play to grab a fat slice of grievance pie by opportunistic greed heads?

Hi Mark!
egarding this year's MS Cruise. Last week, I received a promotional email from Holland America announcing the return of cruises to the Mediterranean this summer. Reading the fine print on the email, it said this: "Holland America Line 2021 cruises are available for guests who have received their final dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior to the beginning of the cruise and have proof of vaccination."
While I have sympathy toward the cruise lines because they have been hit so hard by Covid, the idea of forced vaccination and having to produce our "papers" proving it is a really tough thing for me.
As more information is coming out about the Covid vaccines, I can't help but be concerned. I am in no way an "anti-vaxxer". I'm very pro-vaccine (I even got a flu shot in April!). It's just this particular EUA vaccine and the insane push by the left for everyone to get it that has me hesitant.
Planning for your cruise and our Europe trip was such a bright light at the end of this long Covid-lockdown tunnel of isolation. I literally have tears in my eyes typing this because the idea of losing this trip (AGAIN!) breaks my heart. I so wish this year's cruise could be stateside - a nice resort for the week or something like that so that we all could attend and participate in the fun.
Do you see any way around this vaccine requirement for those of us that can't or won't get this shot? We haven't cancelled our travel plans yet, but the time is quickly approaching that we have to make that impossible decision. Thanks!

I appreciate the joke, but I'm disgusted by this behavior and am starting to think it shouldn't be joked about but rather called out as behavior worthy of severe prison time. Hi Mark, My teenage daughter and I are on a road trip and she loves to listen to Broadway and other musical theater sound tracks as we drive down the highway. I introduced her to Jesus Christ Superstar although I hadn't listened to it for years. During the song "This Jesus Must Die" I was struck by the parallels with Trump ( although I am not in any way comparing the Trump to Jesus, just noting that the lyrics seem to apply). The lyrics describe the "establishment" priests plotting to permanently get rid of this threat (Jesus) to their power. As a "rally" rages outside, they mock Jesus' followers as " howling mob of blockheads" and "half-witted fans," etc. etc. I couldn't wait to ask you about this as my first Q&A question especially in light of your friendship(?) with Tim Rice.

Two unrelated events: There is a Government of Canada/Health Canada collage going around thanking medical professionals in various languages (submitted under separate cover).
One of the many startling items is its downgrading of French (reduced to a bottom corner, and smaller print that the English) and the total lack of Spanish.
The lack of Spanish in the collage may be coupled with an item from a university in Connecticut where Jessica Bridges, a PhD candidate at Oklahoma State University, declares at a conference on Women's and Gender studies that as a white woman, she will no longer be teaching Spanish.
One could say she's setting an example (giving up her position and offering it to a POC), but can we get any madder?

Mark asked yesterday and not for the first time "How long are American blacks going to put up with being condescended to by racist whites in the Democratic Party?" Well, there are 55 black Dem members of the House, including such famous names as Emanuel Cleaver, Jim Clyburn, Al Green (the one who WON'T take you to the river), Hank "Tip-over" Johnson, Sheila Jackson Lee and Mad Max(ine) Waters, 2 black Senators in Cory Booker and Raphael Warnock, and various sundries including Stacey Abrams etc around the country. And every single one of them is on board with the Programme - while Tim Scott (R) is openly called an Uncle Tom and an Oreo for daring to write his own script. My point being: if I was an inner-city American black, those 58+ names would present a real hurdle for all those calling for me to get off the plantation. Social proof is, as you have said many times, a very big deal, and those white devil Dems have ensured they are insulated up the wazoo. How would you suggest overcoming that hurdle? My own answer, the only one I have, is: education. Which will take at least several generations, if you can sell at all a mantra of self-respect and responsibility. But the devil has the best tunes.

It cuts to her swigging a glass of wine, extolling abortion and saying she is a conservative's worst nightmare. It is extremely disturbing. A young high school valedictorian has done the same in her speech and has gone viral. How did killing babies become a virtue for young women, and how can we possibly reverse this trend?

Mark, the attacks on Christians in Canada and the state of Victoria in Australia continue to increase, while Jews are harassed in Quebec, all in the name of public health. Here in the UK the situation is that churches are classed as non-essential and there has little push back such as that shown by pastor Artur Pawlowski in Alberta. This is becoming less and less about Covid, highlighted by lockdown zealots like Trudeau announcing restrictions extending to 2024 already. There seems to me a perfect storm attacking the West: home grown enmity from Communist groups such as the Frankfurt School in the United States and elsewhere; the anti-human environmental movement which sees the human race as a virus; and hostile foreign entities. The balance may be a bit tricky to establish as to who did what and when, and what really happened in the Wuhan Virology Lab. I wonder how you see it; and where do you see effective resistance to tyranny coming from?

As for Fauci, you previously made the point that Trump was Fauci's boss so Trump and his administration was ultimately accountable for whatever mess a prima donna like Fauci made. As for China, calls for accountability will likely whither when faced with the reality that many of the key goods we rely on are sourced from a supply chain originating from China that has been 30 years in the making. Good luck with that.

Hello Mark!
I was glad to hear your analysis of the London mayor election, which I followed fairly closely from across the pond. While I was also cheering Laurence Fox, I was concerned about his stop and search policy: First of all, I wouldn't trust cops who harassed people for drinking coffee on park benches to actually stop people who they think may be carrying knives, nor do I trust murderers to stop killing people no matter what they have in their hand. Not to mention that I'd put a timer on how soon Sadiq types would search people for dangerous reading materials like the Telegraph. But any suggestion of expanding gun rights for the British people is as taboo as vaccination deaths: I saw Nigel Farage do a beautiful pirouette away from the second amendment question when he was on tour, insisting that all protesting must be peaceful and missing the point entirely. Do you think it's possible to have a successful push for self defense in England, or will it take a literal ground war before the people see the need for it?
