On Tuesday evening I'll be joining Hannity on Fox News, coast to coast at 10pm Eastern/7pm Pacific. If you're in the vicinity of the receiving apparatus, I hope you'll dial us up. With Labor Day receding in the rear-view mirror, I'll be back on the airwaves putting in my two cents on behalf of my new book with Bruce & Amy on WIND in Chicago, Jim Lakely at Heartland, Ben Mathis of KickAss Politics, the lads at Ricochet and more. For full details, check out our On the Air box at right. And, if you steered clear of TV and radio over the last few days and missed my interview with Glenn Beck, scroll down to the bottom because it's great fun.
~I'm very heartened by the response of readers to "A Disgrace to the Profession": The World's Scientists - in Their Own Words - on Michael E Mann, His Hockey Stick and Their Damage to Science - Volume One. As we begin our second week, it's already in its fourth printing. But, if you no longer care for paper, it's also available in Kindle and Nook. We're still the Number One climatology bestseller, with our companion volume Climate Change: The Facts at Number Four, and both books kicking the butt of Michael E Mann's Dreary Predictions, down at Number 15.
And readers around the world seem to like it. From Gerry Morrow at Amazon UK:
Steyn takes apart Mike Mann's hockey stick science using the words of the scientists themselves.. It's the modern day equivalent of putting Mann in the stocks and having his colleagues throw the rotten fruit.
From Bernie Hutchins at Amazon US:
This is a very good book and one you will enjoy and likely find easy reading... We know that Steyn can "zing" an adversary, but here he lets others (many Mann's "friends") do it. In consequence, should any reviewer want to contradict the book content, it is VERY hard to see where one would even start.
From Andy Pattullo at Amazon Canada:
A must-read book on how science is being perverted to serve policy.
Okay, that's enough raves. Unlike Michael E Mann, who's such an insecure thin-skinned dweeb he threatens to get one-star reviewers banned for "abuse", at SteynOnline we cherish our one-star reviews. And here's the very first one! Step forward D Howizter of Vancouver:
This is quite quite possibly the most useless book ever. It is a series of quotes snippets provided with minimal context from other "scientists" which are intended to discredit Michael Mann's theories. Whether or not the theory being refuted is credible, this book just provides nothing to a debate on climate change.
The only revealing in this book is that Mark Steyn seems to have an obsessive compulsive disorder that focuses on Michael Mann.
Oddly enough, being sued for nine million bucks will do that to you.
~Michigan reader James Eridon had a better time than Mr Howizter:
Mark -
Got my signed copy of "Disgrace" just before I left on a cruise. Read it cover-to-cover, twice, while enjoying a glorious climate optimum in the southern Caribbean. Thanks for a great trip.
Glad to see you could treat an absolutely maddening subject with such good humor. The whole Mann/Big Climate situation seems Kafkaesque, or maybe from the more incredible parts of Atlas Shrugged. The normal reaction to that is outrage and anger, as opposed to clever puns and biting sarcasm. I'm sure my fellow cruisers wondered why I was laughing out loud at a book with that title. Good luck in your battles with the climate mullahs and the insane American judicial system.
Dr. James Eridon, PhD
P.S. I almost never use my title, but the post-nominal seems to impress small minds, so I decided to include it on the off-chance that Greg L. or David A. or Peter G. see this note.
If you've got it, flaunt it, baby. As Ed Begley, Jr, the actor-turned-activist, says right up front at the beginning of the book:
Don't get your information from me, folks, or any newscaster. Get it from people with PhD after their names.
So I did. Glad to know of yours. Just for Mr Begley, we may be launching a "PhD of the Day".
~Indiana reader Doug Light writes:
Dear Mark:
During the run up to the book release, I read more than one review touting the laudable efforts of a lad named Josh, whose cartoons adorn the the first page of each chapter.
But there is never any mention of a last name for this Josh fellow. I've come to the conclusion that he must be another Brazilian soccer star, like Pele or Renaldo, whose identity needs no further clarification, and he moonlights as a cartoonist to your benefit.
Who is this mysterious person?
Sincerely,
Doug Light
Indianapolis
Josh is the love-child of Sting and Lulu. He is married to Charo.
~As promised above, if you snuck off early for the Labor Day weekend, here's a reprise of Mark's appearance on The Glenn Beck Show. This was a terrific extended interview covering my new book plus climate alarmism more generally, Iran and Isis, the death of Europe, and a little bit of Donald Trump, too. Click below to listen - I show up about 40 minutes in:
See you on the TV Tuesday night with Sean Hannity.
